Is this meter legally approved for tenant billing and sub-metering in the EU?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The NMID30-1 V1 holds MID Annex B+D certification under EU Directive 2014/32/EU, issued by SGS Fimko OY (Certificate No. 0120/SGS0727), valid until June 2034. This makes it legally compliant for billing applications across all EU member states, including commercial sub-metering and cost allocation between tenants.

Does the meter work with my existing current transformers?

Accepted Answer

The NMID30-1 V1 is compatible with standard 1A or 5A secondary current transformers and supports primary currents up to 6000A. You configure the CT ratio during initial setup. Important: on the MID-certified version, the CT ratio can only be programmed once — after which it is locked to preserve the meter's certified status. Make sure you have the correct CT ratio confirmed before commissioning.

Can this meter measure solar PV export as well as grid import?

Yes. The meter independently records both imported and exported active energy (kWh) and reactive energy (kVArh), making it suitable for installations with solar PV, battery storage, or EV charging where bidirectional energy flows need to be separately logged and reported.

How do I connect it to a BMS or SCADA system?

Accepted Answer

The meter has a built-in RS485 port supporting Modbus RTU protocol. You connect using a standard twisted pair screened cable (daisy-chain topology, up to 32 devices, max 1200m cable run). The Modbus address (1–247), baud rate (2400–38400), parity, and stop bits are all configurable from the front panel setup menu. A full register map covering 60+ parameters is available in the Modbus user manual, downloadable from lumel.com.pl.

Does it need a separate power supply?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. The meter can be powered from a separate auxiliary supply (85–275 V AC or 120–380 V DC), but it can also be self-powered directly from the monitored supply by linking the voltage and neutral reference into terminals 5 and 6. This simplifies wiring in most standard single and three-phase installations.
